Hardware
- Mixing bowl
- Rolling pin (optional)
- Baking sheet & cooling rack
- Fork or skewer for docking
Mise En Place
Preheat an oven to about 300f
Directions
- Mix the flour and salt
- Add water until the dough barely comes together
- Knead until the dough is smooth
- Roll out dough to ~1cm thickness and cut into desired shapes and sizes
- Alternatively one can tear the dough into about egg-sized sections and shape them by hand
- Dock the dough with a fork or skewer
- Bake the dough for a couple of hours
- Cool the oven down
- Bake again at the oven’s lowest setting for at least 8 hours until the hardtack is as dry as possible
